Photographer Yayoi Arimoto, who travels the world, continues to visit Lithuania—a small country known for its deep respect for nature and freedom.This photo book brings together fragments of beauty and memory, capturing the everyday scenes that stayed with her.
Along the way, it also traces the footsteps of filmmaker Jonas Mekas and composer-painter M.K. Čiurlionis, evoking the background of a land that gained its freedom through non-violence.
The journey and presence of this small country connect past and present, others and self, the world and each of us—as if asking how we live, and how we choose to be.
著者略歴
写真家。東京生まれ。
アリタリア-イタリア航空会社で客室乗務員として勤務するなかで写真と出合う。2003年に初個展を開催、2006年より写真家として本格的に活動を開始。世界各地の衣食住に根付いた美を求めて、手仕事・料理・服飾・デザイン・旅にまつわる雑誌や書籍で撮影を手掛ける。
写真集に『MAGICAL TRANSIT DAYS』（2005年／アートビートパブリッシャーズ）、『わたしの獣たち』（2015年／青幻舎）、撮影担当した共著に『熊を彫る人』、『CALICOのインド手仕事布案内』（小学館）、『中国手仕事紀行』（青幻舎）などがある。
Photographer, born in Tokyo.
She discovered photography while working as a cabin attendant for Alitalia. After holding her first solo exhibition in 2003, she began her journey as an independent photographer in 2006.
She seeks and captures the beauty rooted in daily life—clothing, food, and living spaces—around the world, photographing for magazines and books on handicrafts, cooking, textiles, design and travel.
Photography books include: MAGICAL TRANSIT DAYS (2005, Artbeat Publishers) and BEASTS OF MINE (2015, SEIGENSHA Art Publishing). Collaborative works featuring her photography include: The Bear Carver, the journey of CALICO: the ART of INDIAN VILLAGE FABRICS (Shogakukan), and China Handicraft Journey (SEIGENSHA Art Publishing).
